Abstract | In this article, the author asserts that those who teach writing must regularly engage in conversations with "all" teachers about how their work with and on writing connects to work that students are doing across the entire curriculum. In other words, writing and writing instruction are not and should not be considered the sole responsibility of teachers of English, composition, and/or humanities-based courses. The author contends that writing happens across the curriculum. However, those who teach and/or focus on writing are not always explicit with colleagues and students about how writing happens across sociocultural contexts in ways that are more expansive than the space of and work that occurs within individual, content-specific courses. She discusses writing as expansive and transformative and reflects on passages about writing from "Innovative Writing Instruction" columns of "English Journal." (ERIC). |
