AbstractThe Eastern approach has been identified as an alternative approach in Western physical education. The why and how to integrate the Eastern approach in physical education has been addressed in the literature, while the what deserves scholarly attention. The objective of this paper is to present four core concepts and key elements that construct the conceptual framework of the Eastern approach: mindfulness, simplicity, oneness, and interdependency. Primarily rooted in Eastern philosophies of Buddhism, Confucianism, and Daoism, this conceptual framework functions as the operationalisation of the Eastern approach as it makes connections between theory and practice. These four concepts are articulated from various perspectives and are viewed as interdependent, inseparable, and integral. Each of the four concepts is illuminated through an explanation of the conceptual theory with suggestions for its enactment. The authors' intention is that this conceptual framework should be regarded as operational and workable in process, and warrants further discussion and debate. It is hoped that this exploration can assist further integration of the Eastern approach at a deeper level in Western physical education. (As Provided).
