Abstract | "Donors don't give to causes; they give to people with causes." This often-cited saying rings true and emphasizes that the donor is influenced largely by the personality, professionalism, and character of the asker. The interpersonal skills of development officers and key volunteers are critical to development of relationships with donors, a fact that cannot be overemphasized. Applying these skills is the art of fundraising. This notwithstanding, the science and systems of fundraising give the development officer the information tools to be applied in practicing this art. This chapter focuses on the systems and processes supporting development of constituents as prospects, and ultimately as donors. (Contains 1 figure.) (ERIC). |
