AbstractIn reading the last section of their primary text, "Learning in Adulthood: A Comprehensive Guide" by Merriam, Caffarella, and Baumgartner (2007) in his Adult Learning and Development class, the author continued to feel as though he was being self-assured of his previous learning experiences once again. The final section of the text focused on basic psychological concepts and theories that he had become familiar with while completing his undergraduate degree. However, the text highlighted the tangential relationships between these psychological concepts and adult learning theory. The text discusses five different theories, or as the authors put it, "orientations," to learning: (1) behaviorist; (2) humanist; (3) cognitivist; (4) social cognitive; and (5) constructivist. In this article, the author revisits adult learning theory through the lens of an adult learner, and finds his thoughts about adult learning theory affirmed. (ERIC).
