Abstract | K-12 students enter physical education with many naive conceptions or misconceptions of how motor skills are acquired. One goal of physical education is to teach concepts that will help students learn and perform motor skills, but many practitioners don't know how to provide experiences that will teach students to apply their knowledge independently outside of the classroom when learning new skills. This article focuses on how teachers can address NASPE national standard two by teaching motor-learning concepts using guided discovery. A conceptual framework for shifting the focus from the teacher to the student is provided, as well as two examples of lesson plans that have been modified to teach developmentally appropriate motor-learning concepts. (Contains 3 figures and 2 tables.) (As Provided). |
