Abstract | This is the fourth in a series of four articles about how to tell others about a child's epilepsy. If a child has epilepsy, parents will be confronted with the need to tell the parents of their child's friends about their child's epilepsy. This can be exceedingly difficult for a parent the first few times. Parents can make their world safer for themselves or their child by telling other people about seizures and epilepsy. Telling another parent about their child's epilepsy has the same primary goal as telling a friend--managing fear. However, getting the conversation started might seem overwhelming. In this article, the author offers a few suggestions parents might use to reveal their child's epilepsy to other parents, the child's playmates, schools, and in the workplace. (ERIC). |
