Abstract | Data acquisition and analysis are cornerstones for informed decision making about the environment. Facts and figures are vital to the practical application of systems and products. These data are collected through various means and organized into useful forms (i.e., visual imagery, datasets, and sounds). Whether collected by persons or obtained from other sources, information is realized through sensing agents. Data-sensing activities in technology education classrooms further opportunities for students to use the design process to recognize environmental issues and trends, and project their impacts. In this article, data and its importance are discussed and an overview of remote sensing technology is provided. Remote sensing devices and applications are also discussed. A Design Brief entitled "Using Remote Sensing to Study Climate Change for Application to Agricultural Production" is included. (Contains 3 online resources.) (ERIC). |
