Abstract | In this article, the author talks about the responsibility of parents to help kids to become financially educated. The author contends that it is the parents' responsibility to insure that their children learn important financial skills. If it is not happening in school, it is time to add financial education to parenting priorities. For parents who do not feel equipped to do so, the author suggests an organization in Denver that specializes in financial and economic education for young people. Young Americans Center for Financial Education (www.yacenter.org) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to further the financial and economic education of young people. The organization offers unique hands-on programs in a specially-designed educational environment. It also makes available a wealth of suggested activities that can kick-start a child's journey to financial success. Some sample websites with lessons about kids and money are presented. (ERIC). |
