Abstract | In this article, a reader is asking for advice regarding her 10-year-old daughter who is having difficulty with her reading and focusing skills and social skills. The author recommends that her daughter should have a full evaluation of her academic skills and potentials inclusive of psychology, speech, and occupational therapy. The author also suggests two ways for her to find out how the teacher is viewing her child: (1) by calling for a meeting to review her daughter's in-school services; and (2) through a checklist that she and the teacher should each fill out and compare. Furthermore, the author proposes getting information on the process of going through an individualized education program (IEP) meeting. A social attribute checklist is included in this article.
