Abstract | America is facing an obesity epidemic--one that is difficult to ignore. In order to combat the nation's obesity crisis, it is imperative that schools find ways to increase the physical activity levels of students during the school day, as well as encourage additional activity outside of school. By teaching youth to incorporate physical activity into their daily routine, educators lay the foundation for a lifetime of health-enhancing physical activity. The call for America's schools to become more accountable for the health and wellness of students is an excellent opportunity for physical educators. By taking the lead to meet this initiative through innovative ways of increasing students' physical activity during the school day, physical educators will establish themselves as recognized leaders within their schools.
