Abstract	It is vital for young students to see how the lives of the veterans connect to their own lives. In this article, the author describes a project of making history come alive. The project started with a visit to the Otterbein Cemetery mausoleum to learn about the U.S. military veterans interred there. These veterans represented a century of U.S. history; they fought in the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, World War I, and World War II. Some of them died in combat, while others returned to their community and lived into old age. As teachers and students began to research the local and national history that spanned the lives of these bold men, the stories of the veterans' lives began to come to light. The success of the project came from planning and drawing on the questions from the students as guides to teaching. (Contains 2 notes.) (ERIC).
