Abstract	This research seeks to explore personal and contextual factors that form the basis of formulating and implementing vocational choices in acting careers. The twenty eight student actors that participated in the study were asked to write an auto-biographical description of personal factors and educational opportunities they recognised as decisive for their career choice. Analysis of results enabled the identification of personal features, such as autonomy, determination and perseverance, which the individuals to overcome social and cultural barriers they encountered during construction of their acting careers.
