Abstract | The Royal Marines may seem an unlikely place to develop an interest in complementary medicine but for Ted Kelland, an inspirational teacher whose work has just been recognised in a national award, it was a natural progression. It was through his initial training in "barefoot medicine" and his experience as a Royal Marine Commando instructor, delivering physical and martial arts training, that Ted developed an interest in complementary therapy. When he left the service, he decided to use his skills and knowledge to make a difference, teaching privately and, for the last 15 years, in a further education college. His passion and sense of mission for the work is obvious, not least in the commitment of the students he dubs his "eagles". This article features Wales Tutor of the Year Ted Kelland, a former Royal Marine whose inspirational complementary therapy classes give his students the courage to make a difference. (ERIC). |
