AbstractThis article presents two reports on the interviews with school principals in Belgium and France. The first report presents the results of interviews with 5 Flemish secondary school leaders. The purpose of the investigation was to gain an explorative insight of their use of and their remarks on the recent initiated systems to provide schools with individual feedback as a result of the gathering of international educational indicators. In an interview, the personal views of principals were questioned. The focus of the interviews was the feedback provided to schools after their participation in the international comparative TIMSS-R and PISA studies. The second is a report on interviews with three principals in France who expressed their view mostly on national indicators which they often use in their daily practice. Of the three heads of establishment interviewed, two had never used any international indicators and had little knowledge of them, apart from what they had read in the press. One was better acquainted with them as he had participated in drawing up an international questionnaire on educational establishments. They are interested in the indicators that the French ministry constructs and disseminates (like social status of pupils, pass-rate...) which can be applied to their schools. (Contains 3 footnotes.)
