Abstract | Last fall, the National Center for Public Policy in Higher Education published the results of a five-state demonstration project aimed at developing common state-level benchmarks for student learning for its fifty-state report card, "Measuring Up." One of the instruments used in this Pew-funded project was the Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA), a task-based assessment offered by the RAND Corporation's Council on Aid to Education (CAE). In the wake of this project, additional states are beginning to use the CLA as part of their statewide assessment initiatives. By far the most extensive and interesting such effort is in Missouri. This article discusses Missouri's use of the CLA which involves a voluntary collaboration among institutions and the Missouri Department of Higher Education (MDHE). It also describes Missouri's experience with the CLA. (ERIC). |
