Abstract | Learning communities have been in operation at Temple University (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) since 1993. The goals of the program focus primarily on the creation of stronger social bonds among students as well as enhanced interaction within the classroom. The learning community approach attempts to foster an intellectual environment within which student learning can flourish. After several years of enhancing and modifying learning communities within the university, administrators felt that it was time to survey students about their experiences with and opinions of the program. In 2001, Temple completed its first survey of students participating in the learning community program. The study focused on the delivery of the learning community program in the classroom and the degree to which students found it helpful. This article presents the results of this survey. (ERIC). |
