Abstract | In the fourth year (2002-2003) of the assessment effort at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), several programs have finished the first complete cycle of assessing selected outcomes. Faculty in these programs have finished analyzing data from a variety of valid and reliable sources, reviewed and compared assessment results, provided recommendations or suggestions for their departments or colleges, and begun discussing the actions they will take on the basis of the findings. In addition, faculty in each of these programs submitted a short report about all assessment activities and related issues to the Outcomes Assessment Committee (OAC), which is managing and supervising the assessment process at UAEU. A key to completing the assessment cycle for many departments has been a simplification of the process by the OAC, which has led to stronger faculty motivation and more positive attitudes toward the process itself.
