Abstract | Electronics instructors and students find it very helpful to be able to check an operational amplifier at the proto-board stage. Most students lack the experience or knowledge that it takes to recognize whether an op-amp is operating normally or not. This article discusses a handy op-amp checker that allows one to check and/or test op-amps at the proto-board stage, and with a little experience, to estimate slew rates. With this handy op-amp checker, one can simply remove the component in question from the proto-board, insert it into the op-amp checker, and see whether or not the checker's LEDs (light-emitting diodes) are toggling. Here, the author describes how an op-amp checker works and suggests ways to build a checker. (Contains 4 figures and 3 photos.) (ERIC). |
