AbstractThe authors collaborated to create a model of school reform that has successfully transformed a failing school into a successful school. Working as a team, they have developed a research-based system to effectively improve school performance on the South Carolina School Report Card System. It enhanced the overall quality of a failing school in the Dorchester School District Four, located in Saint George, South Carolina. Their model, Turning Good Teachers into Great Teachers: Turning Green Apples into Red Apples, has been scientifically tested in a research study at H. R. Elementary School, a member school of Dorchester School District Four. Using a control and experimental school to conduct the study, this model transformed the experimental school, with an unsatisfactory rating by the South Carolina Department of Education, to an average rating in less than two years. The conclusion reached from this study is that a total commitment for change has to be made before innovative approaches and systems can replace traditional ways of leading, teaching, conducting staff development, enhancing and achieving student skill, and accountability of stakeholders. Turning Good Teachers into Great Teachers: Turning Green Apples into Red Apples provides a researched-based multi-system approach to develop holistic leaders. It creates an aligned curriculum with teacher ownership. It strengthens teachers' pedagogy skills, motivates teachers to teach State standards based upon lesson plans and homework that are aligned with State standards, and applies levels one to six of Bloom's Taxonomy for instruction and assessment. Last, it establishes and applies accountability for student learning outcomes to all stakeholders. (ERIC).
