| Abstract | In this article, the author shares her experiences as a wife of a low-paid faculty member and the role of her Necchi sewing machine in her married life. She relates how she and her husband had been dirt-poor for the first early years of their marriage. She discusses how the Necchi sewing machine she got as a gift from her mother helped her to earn a little money. She also states that her Necchi sewing machine became a form of therapy in her married life. She says that although she never earned any degree that would have entitled her to wear the robe that her husband wore each May for commencement processions, she considers her creations a form of achievement.
