Abstract | Founded in the 10th century, Cairo's Al-Azhar University is one of the World's oldest and most respected institutions of Islamic scholarship. This article discusses the university's academic program, efforts on behalf of interfaith dialogue, dissemination of Islamic thought, and promotion of goodwill between Islamic and Western cultures.
