| Abstract | In Russian society today, social stratification is reproduced due not only to the distribution of property ownership and power, but also to people's access to intellectual resources. These latter constitute a vitally important element of the structure of transformation, and social stratification reflects its qualities. From this it follows that the problem of educational stratification is closely linked to social and economic changes, on the one hand, and to society's self-development under the conditions of the fundamental changes that are taking place, on the other hand. In this article, the authors determine the factors that serve to get young people involved in market relations in the sphere of education, in the labor market, and consumption and analyze the social stratification of young people in order to achieve an understanding of the interconnection between socioeconomic dynamics and behavioral priorities of the "market generation" in the processes of the transformation of Russian society. To serve as empirical material, the authors made use of the findings of a representative survey covering all of Moscow. The sample set consisted of 2,266 people of Moscow. The main method for obtaining the information was the questionnaire survey. The survey shows that on the basis of "inherited information," an education represents not only a pragmatic value but also retains its significance as a terminal goal. This tendency is revealed as early as the first stage of the individual's social and professional self-determination, in the choice of profession. (Contains 5 tables and 3 notes.) (ERIC). |
