Abstract | This article presents different views by various professors on the issue of college readiness. Also discussed are the problems encountered by students as a part of college readiness. The discussion stems from a set of alarming statistics about college-completion rates. While nearly three-fourths of recent high school graduates enter some form of postsecondary education, far too many of those who start college never finish. One reason for the concern about college readiness is the large proportion of high school graduates who end up taking remedial courses for which they earn no credit. Here, the author describes studies and programs that have begun to follow high school graduates into college to look at the factors that contribute to students' success. (Contains 2 tables.)
