Abstract | This article explores the uses of think-aloud protocol with struggling adult readers. In this work, the author explores the varied uses of think-alouds before inquiring into the strategy as an instructional tool for adults. An analysis of the use of think-aloud protocol with adults in a community college classroom reveals its problems and promise as a way to help adults' comprehension monitoring strategies and, ultimately, reading proficiency.
