AbstractThe objective of this study was to determine employers' perspectives of employees' personal financial literacy. Executives rated credit card use and budgeting as the most important personal financial literacy skills that employees should have. They stated that strong personal financial literacy skills allow an employee to focus on work activity and productivity, resulting in increased financial returns for the company. When employees struggle with personal financial issues, executives noted the following problems in the workplace: increased absenteeism, frequent personal phone calls, lack of ability to concentrate, bad publicity for the company when bankruptcy occurs, and the risk of fraud and/or theft. While most executives learned their personal financial skills at home from their parents, they believe that employees should now gain those skills in school. (Contains 2 tables.) (Author).
