| Abstract | Are these halcyon days for arts education, or are we at least in an auspicious or opportune period for the field? One encounters good news on a daily basis; arts advocates and policymakers are actively promoting the arts and arts education. Yet many in the arts education community do not feel that they are experiencing a renaissance period. What are the negatives? They do not have valid data in large numbers that arts in the schools are being eliminated, so what is the cause of the unease? From the author's perspective, the atmosphere is, at least partially, due to the inability to offer sound policies, programs, and priorities, plus the lack of clear answers to questions regarding the future of arts education in the United States at the beginning of the twenty-first century. Coherence is essential for success. However, there are challenges which the author enumerates in this article. (Contains 1 note.) (ERIC). |
