| Abstract | Projection of mothers' unresolved feelings onto their children about absent fathers is frequently encountered in therapy with single-parent Black families. The empty chair procedure and the use of family photographs are interventions used, within the context of structural and transgenerational therapies, that help mothers separate feelings about absent fathers from feelings about their children.
