Abstract | Discusses how alternative schools exclude students with behavior deemed inappropriate for mainstream schools, describing the exclusion within a discourse of providing academic alternatives for students given up on by the system. Discusses a curriculum for the underclass; parents' perspectives; lack of role models and racial isolation in alternative schools; students' perceptions of alternative schools; and moving to inclusive schools.
