Abstract | Two Nigerian surveys examined discrepancies between deaf students' (N=146) vocational aspirations and the hearing public's (N=534) assessment of their vocational capabilities. Among reported results was that the hearing public's perception of capability matched the self-evaluation of 78.8 percent of the deaf students, who believed that only nonprofessional jobs were realistic choices.
