AbstractIn this study, light is shed on interactions among policy engagement, inequities in faculty labor, and the role of institutions of higher education in supporting or hindering policy work regarding faculty of color. Institutional support would increase the representation of people of color in policymaking settings and advance institutional goals (magnifying their impact and creating new opportunities for partnerships and funding). Twenty faculty members from twenty different research universities were interviewed and their insights guided recommendations for institutions. These recommendations include: (1) formally valuing policy engagement; (2) offering institutional support and protection from the consequences of public policy engagement; and (3) providing resources for such engagement.
