Abstract | The authors set out to develop a series of mathematical games that could be played 'openhanded' over zoom using only a virtual deck of cards (deck.of.cards). This article briefly describes three games they have developed that other teachers might find valuable, whether for use in a remote learning environment or back in the classroom. Each game has an associated mathematical investigation outlined, based on the notion that games provide a rich context for developing open-ended and open-middled problem solving tasks, and a compelling hook for engaging students in such tasks (Russo & Russo, 2020). All three games are focused on deepening student understanding of probability, and exposing students to dependent probability, although at times have an additional learning focus. (ERIC). |
