Abstract | The article seeks to answer four questions: (1) How different are the value worlds in the Estonian- and German-language songbooks used in Estonia 1860-1914? (2) To what extent do the value worlds of songbooks express the ideals of the Wandervogel movement? (3) What is the position of wandering among other values? (4) Is the representation of values related to the Wandervogel movement stable across the period studied? The corpus of the study is 24 Estonian-language songbooks with 1534 songs and 27 German-language songbooks with 2330 songs. To determine the value worlds, the semantics of the song lyrics were analysed. NVivo10 qualitative data analysis software was used to trace the context and frequency of words related to wandering and exercising in the texts. The links between different variables were analysed with SPSS 20.0 statistical software. Descriptive and inferential statistics and correlational analysis were employed. (As Provided). |
