Abstract | The challenge, Maggie Goes to Mars, features a beagle (friendly canine), faced with the need to repair a crucial instrument on the Insight spacecraft that landed on Mars in 2018, in order to allow InSight to continue doing the job it was sent to do -- studying the inner core of Mars. The learning challenge launched in December 2020, with middle school classrooms in a public school where students were both in the classroom and at a distance. The feedback from teachers and students was positive, with feedback from teachers indicating the challenge was engaging for both students at a distance and students in person. Data were collected for content and space science dispositions. Findings from the outcomes of the challenge are the focus of this paper. (As Provided). |
