Abstract	Africa is rich in natural resources and magnificent flora and fauna; it is also a place full of kind and hospitable people and as diverse in cultures and traditions as any other continent. The author was born in Uganda, in East Africa, and lived there until 2008, when she relocated to the United States to join her husband, a university professor. The author has discovered many misconceptions some Americans have about Africa. She often hears people say that Africa is a country, rather than a continent. Even more troubling are the assumptions that Africa either is a jungle-filled land where people live alongside wild animals or a war-ravaged place where people are constantly killing each other. In this article, the author discusses how she can educate by sharing some of her own experience of Africa. Her firsthand experiences with Africa have been helpful in changing some of the misconceptions she encounters. (ERIC).
