Abstract | This paper is the second part of a three-paper series. It describes a project based approach to STEM enrichment and presents a detailed description of the practical set-ups, the investigations carried out by the students and their experimental findings. The accompanying first paper outlines an introductory gravitational waves based teaching module which some of the students carried out prior to starting their projects. The third paper studies the impact of the students' research project upon their attitude, self-efficacy and achievement. The project could be considered as exemplification of an innovative and effective partnership between researchers, school teachers and students, potentially addressing the gap between recent research in science education and existing schemes of work for the lower secondary.
