Abstract | Post-apartheid South African education reforms shifted the role of religion from a primary foundation for all subjects to one of several strategies to develop civic, moral, and ethical values among the nation's youth. A concurrent decline in the number and size of postsecondary religious studies departments, however, caused achievement of the desired outcomes to be challenging. In this study, the outcomes for students engaged in religious student organizations were examined to determine whether cocurricular experiences could provide similar outcomes. Findings demonstrated aspects of religious organization involvement, including leadership experiences, led to the desired outcomes among involved students. (As Provided). |
