Abstract | Ralph Wolff is founder and president of The Quality Assurance Commons (https:// theqacommons.org) and an independent policy consultant focusing on accreditation and quality assurance processes in the United States and internationally. He served as president of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Senior College and University Commission from 1996 through August 2013 and as associate executive director since 1981, where he led a transformation of the regional accrediting process. Julie Porosky Hamlin is director of the MarylandOnline consortium and a member of the Quality Matters board of directors. This article presents a conversation between Hamlin and Wolff in which they discuss Wolff's background and how he became involved in the field of quality assurance, how he has begun implementing the principles the Commons supports, and how he feels about the progress that has been made so far. Wolff also shares his thoughts about online education in the context of quality assurance, and specific reforms he would like to see undertaken by the accrediting community or by the Department of Education that would serve the end goal of better quality assurance.
