AbstractA significant number of students transfer from one college to another each year, and historically this has created challenges for students striving to attain their higher education goals. The purpose of this study was to inform state articulation policy by collecting qualitative data to characterize issues that affect students as they transfer from one college to another. Researchers conducted three focus groups and individual telephone interviews with transfer students at four Illinois universities, both public and private. In these focus groups and interviews, students were asked to describe their transfer experiences, including the strengths and weaknesses of the support services available to them from the sending and receiving institutions.
