AbstractThis is an experimental study. In this study, experimental and control groups have been formed based on the scores obtained from Turkish language exams. The study group consists of 80 pupils currently studying in the 5th and 6th grades of the secondary school who have an average GPA of 70 to 80 (of the 5th grade pupils, 20 of them are in the experimental group and 20 in the control group, and, in the same vein, 20 of the 6th grade pupils are in the experimental group while the remaining 20 pupils are in the control group). The pupils in the experimental and control groups were given twenty minutes to write about any subject they wished. No guidance was provided to the experimental group other than playing background music while they were writing their essays. The objective of this study is to encourage otherwise reluctant pupils to write in a fluent manner. This process is called "MAYAZ (Music and Fluent Writing) Technique". The pupils in the control groups were asked to write their essay without any music playing in the background. When the findings were evaluated at the end of the study, it was established that the pupils who wrote their essays in the accompaniment of the background music used more words in their essays than those in the control group. It was seen that the background music contributed to the pupils' fluent writing skills. In this respect, it can be argued that the teachers may interest their pupils in writing essays by playing various background music in a classroom setting. (As Provided).
