Abstract | As a way to respond to the contemporary challenges for promoting multiliteracies and multimodality in education, the current study proposes a theoretical framework--the multiliteracies model--in identifying, developing and evaluating multimodal material. The article examines, first theoretically and then empirically, the promotion of muliliteracies in relation to the development of multimodal educational material through the use of Multimedia Builder (MMB). Using the proposed blended pedagogical model the educational materials were evaluated in terms of their adoption of different literacies modes and their potential to develop multiliteracies. Finally, the paper discusses various educational and scientific implications regarding the integration of multimedia software within the teaching and learning practice as well as pre-service teachers' education and skills' development in multimodality and multiliteracies.
