Abstract | As the cultural climate in American higher education continues to evolve, there is an inherent need to adjust curriculum and educational perceptions to better assist American students in operating in a global context. Furthermore, the current cultural and political landscape in the United States has magnified the need for students attending Christian colleges and universities in the United States to examine their worldview perspectives as it relates to their central belief system and the potential cultural differences they may face when outside the United States. This qualitative study explores the perceptions of cultural humility among undergraduate students attending Christian higher education institutions that have participated in study-abroad orientation programs. While utilizing an online survey and interviewing, a consensual qualitative research approach was used to identify student themes and patterns. In total, 18 themes were identified by the coding team and were supported through participant vignettes and examples. Overall, the study concluded that the sociocultural experiences of undergraduate students in study-abroad orientation programs at Christian institutions are positively received, but present significant gaps in the curriculum regarding cultural discussions or themes need to be addressed in future programming models.
