AbstractNumerous prior literature pointed out the disconnection of knowledge and skills between the classroom and the workplace, especially regarding data analytic skills in the big data era. However, the studies on integrating data analytics, including the current IS/IT environment, into the accounting curriculum are minimal. This study provides an overview of the changes in the environment, including big data, technologies, and accounting education. It identified the skills gap, what data analytics skills should be taught in college, and proposed a desirable and implementable way for infusing data analytics into accounting education, TAD (Teaching Across Discipline) model with industry partnership. Although the model requires a higher level of collaboration among faculties and industry partners, it should allow students and faculty to immerse in real management information systems and learn practical data analytic skills. The study also provides the content analysis of 24 MN accounting programs, the AICPA-NASBA Model Curriculum regarding data analytics, and a survey of accounting professionals regarding their perceptions and usage of data analytics. The results should help faculty initiate their curriculum restructuring with data analytics and add a piece of knowledge to accounting education research. The research indicates that accounting programs should be revised to enhance data analytics and communication skills. Students need to understand the data analytics principles and what techniques (data mining, database querying, statistical hypothesis testing, etc.) can do to extract useful information from data and how the basic principles are applied.
