Abstract | Delaying school start times may help in alleviating some of the negative effects of the lack of sleep among adolescents. There appears to be a consensus among various researchers that later school start times are associated with an increase in total sleep time in adolescents, although some researchers find that such an effect might be fleeting. In addition, later school start times are associated with better behavioral health, decreased tardiness, and a decreased rate of vehicle crashes for school-aged drivers. Findings on the effects of delayed school start times on student academic performance appear to be inconsistent. (As Provided). |
