Abstract | This report is the eighth in a series of informational briefings developed as part of "The Guardians Initiative: Reclaiming the Public Trust," an effort to educate and engage trustees as advocates on key issues in higher education. This brief shows how America's colleges and universities can benefit from a thoughtful and coherent strategy that emphasizes developing international opportunities. These opportunities are part of "internationalization"--the process by which an American academic institution pursues opportunities outside the United States through such activities as the formation of academic partnerships, the recruitment of potential students, and the pursuit of new sources of funding. This report discusses the process of planning for internationalization as well as the roles of institution board members, senior campus leaders, and external stakeholders in that process. Additionally, it addresses why campus internationalization is important and how it prepares students for success. (ERIC). |
