| Abstract | In Illinois, Senate Bill 100 was known in the statutes as Public Act 99-0456, took effect September, 15, 2016. Illinois State Senator Kimberly Lightford and Illinois State Representative William Davis both sponsored Senate Bill 100. Senator Lightford said, "We're moving toward a disciplinary system that prioritizes educating students by keeping them in school." The purpose behind Senate Bill 100 was to limit expulsions and out-of-school suspensions to the greatest extent possible. The purpose of this study was to determine administrators' perceptions about Senate Bill 100. The participants of this study were administrators from Southern Illinois school districts. The study captured the perceptions of administrators about Senate Bill 100 and its implementation within Southern Illinois Schools. The sample of participants were obtained through purposive sampling. In addition, the school's current student discipline policies, suspension and expulsion data, and materials used to train members of the school district on Senate Bill 100 were reviewed. The qualitative design of this study included interviews and document analysis. The study was a phenomenological study with a balance of evidence from interviews and data sources to demonstrate the data was triangulated. The eight themes that emerged from the interviews were handbook and policy changes, alternative discipline techniques, administrators collect and analyze data, in-school suspensions rose and out-of-school suspensions declined, use of out-of-school suspensions and expulsions, administrators acquired training on Senate Bill 100 and shared it with school board, administrators provided training for teachers and staff on Senate Bill 100, and positive and negative outcomes of Senate Bill 100.
