Abstract | My research investigated how assistant principals in the suburbs of Chicago perceive the Illinois teacher evaluation model. Specifically, my study explored the amount of time assistant principals spend on an individual teacher's evaluation cycle, how they were trained to evaluate, their perception of the ratings used, and their perception of the rubric. The research design for this study is qualitative and uses Foucault's archaeological and genealogical approach to investigate the data. By using these approaches I can determine if the new Illinois teacher evaluation model creates what Foucault calls "docile bodies." The creation of docile bodies means that something or someone is holding power over another person. By investigating the power dynamic that exists with the new state of Illinois teacher evaluation model, I make suggestions on how to balance power and increase the positive impact the state of Illinois teacher evaluation model can have on all person's impacted by teacher evaluations.
