Abstract | This research examines the student engagement of senior accounting majors in three major areas of engagement using National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) data: level of academic challenge, active and collaborative learning and student-faculty interaction. Senior accounting majors are compared to senior business administration majors and senior engineering students using NSSE benchmarks as well as scalelets within each benchmark to discover areas of engagement that are significantly lower for accounting majors to better understand why accounting majors report lower levels of student engagement than their peers. The comparison examines uncontrolled data as well as data controlled for demographics in the analysis. Finally, Pearson's Chi-Square analysis is used to determine to what extent student characteristics explain any differences.
