Abstract | This qualitative case study explored how parents of children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) perceive their child's emotional competence and social function related to interactions with their non-disabled peers and church staff in disability ministry inclusion programs in the Southwest. The study was established on the foundation of two theories: the socialization theory and the family stress theory. The research questions provided parents with the opportunity to share about what their child with a disability experienced while attending church. The data sets that addressed the research questions were interviews with the parents, journals written by each parent about an experience they have had with their child at church, and video recordings/observations of three different disability ministry inclusion classrooms. The sample included 13 parents of children with ASD who attended one of three churches in the Southwest US. The data were analyzed through self-coding of themes, coding of themes in MAXQDA, and member checking. The data indicated the need for disability ministry inclusion programs in churches, the need for training of staff in children's ministries, and the relief that the disability ministry inclusion programs provide for the stress of the parents.
