AbstractWith the increase of West Indian families of African descent acculturating into new communities and cultivating spaces for their cultures and customs to flourish, there is an increased significance for continued quantitative analyses to examine the cultural patterns, values and practices that take place within the West Indian familial structures in the United States. As generations continue to acculturate into new communities, West Indian families are faced with migratory experiences, post migratory experiences, familial expectations and acculturations and succession of their current and future generations. However, there is limited research on the impact that these educational choices have on their parenting, families and resilience through acculturation. Currently, there is limited research of West Indian immigrant families across current and future generations overall resilience, social and educational developments. This study examined authoritarian parenting as a predictor of resilience and the academic experience of second and third generations of West Indian students and families. It explored the relationships between authoritarian parenting, resilience and academic experience of West Indian college students and their families through acculturation.
