Abstract | In order to remain competitive, higher education institutions must be prepared to acculturate adjunct faculty to their mission and instructional philosophy (Bojarczyk, 2008). They must also develop programs that support and engage adjunct faculty (Blodgett, 2008; Landers, 2012). The purpose of this study was to analyze and describe differences between historical data collected via survey in 2004 from adjunct faculty (Adjunct Faculty Group A) and the current data, collected in 2015 from current adjunct faculty (Adjunct Faculty Group B). The study utilized an intact Adjunct Faculty Needs Assessment survey instrument administered at a private four-year Midwestern university in 2004 and re-administered in 2015. The participants for the current study included all 251 adjunct faculty employed at the university during the fall 2015 semester; they were selected through a convenience sample. This study followed a survey research design; specifically a longitudinal trend study. The survey instrument measured adjunct faculty interest in support services, interest in instructional strategy topics, and reasons for teaching. Data collected in the study compared the outcomes of the ex post facto data to the outcomes of the current data in order to determine if there was significance between the two groups. The analysis found that there were significant differences between the Adjunct Faculty Group A and the Adjunct Faculty Group B responses in several areas of support services and in interests in instructional strategy topics.
